Recording of the Young Sinatras’ new CD
After some good days in PowerSound Studios Amsterdam the tracks are finally laid down for our new CD. 12 tracks have been recorded and solos are being recorded as we speak. Hopefully it will release before summer. I will keep you up to date. Check the Photo Gallery for some cool shots from the guys and the studio.
New portrait makeover added
Added a new photo makeover to the Before/After gallery. Got an assignment to make some high resolution portraits of a friend of mine for his orchestra’s annual program. Shows some Photoshop techniques and how you can improve your portrait shots.
Updated the blog software today that runs all these posts. Hopefully it can help speed up the site and add some safety. I had some troubles with spam which I now hope will disappear.
Buy my photos! (or start selling your own)
I have joined an online stock photo store recently and started to upload some of my work for sales purposes. Some of you contacts me asking to get a print or so from a photo they like. Now without worries it’s easy to go to my online store to simply buy them! Easy enough, by clicking on the banner below you’ll be taken to my online gallery where you can purchase any number of my photos for cheap dollars.
For those of you who have had thoughts of starting to sell photos online as well, just do it! Does not cost you a penny to join up, nor does it hurt getting some dollars for the hard work you have put in. Click the buttons below and join up! You can choose multiple companies to multiply your revenues, just make sure you don’t give any company full/exclusive rights to your photos.
Reorganization
I have divided my normal photo albums and the Photoshop Before/After albums. The new gallery for those Photoshop interested ones can be found on top of the page under Before/After Gallery. The other images from before are still to be found in the old Photo Gallery.
And… I have added one more album in the Before/After section. Please enjoy!
Community site for photo sharing
Found a very cool place today on the internet which I think will grow very fast. It is similar to Flickr and MySpace and does already show good potential. Tabblo lets you via an intuitive interface create albums/collages of your photos. It then lets you choose styles/templates/designs for your album and arranges/resizes them neatly automatically. Very easy signup and you are ready to go. Take some of your photos and create an album. Make sure you add me to your circle of friends network. Here are my first tabblos - check them out!
Photoshop before/after section added
I thought it could be fun to create a section of Photoshop work for the photo album. I will show images in two states:
- BEFORE - the image either taken straight out of the camera or with some minor changes.
- AFTER - The image shown after I made changes to it inside Photoshop.
This might give you an idea of what is actually possible inside the computer. I get a lot of questions concerning this and there is always an ongoing discussion whether it is allowed or not to manipulate and/or alter the editorial contents of an image. I do agree that it is an artform in itself ONLY using your camera and current lighting conditions to create your images - that is the art of photography! What I also beleive is that an image is created for myself and for a viewer. If I can help the viewer experiencing more of an image by improving it in Photoshop, then I have also improved the artistic value of that image. As in the old days when people used the darkroom with all fluids, tools and lights to improve images, I just use Photoshop to serve that same purpose. No matter how I have created an image - with or without the help of a computer - the end result is still what I call my photograph.
Taken from the greek words 'phos' and 'graphis' - photography actually means "drawing with light" !
Some enhancements to the site
Finally I feel more or less finished with the transition to the new photo gallery. The entire site should now be MUCH faster then it has been before. That is an improvement for sure. The photo gallery link is to be found as usual on the top of the page - above the title image - but clicking on the pictures in the posts will not work anymore. So remember that link on top to reach the photos. I added some captions and descriptions to most of the photos and made the slideshow experience somewhat better, I even added some sound effects!
I hope you enjoy my improvements - please feel free to report in and tell me how it works!
Give me advise!
Since both you guys an myself are getting more than tired of the speed issues of my site, I have been trying out hundreds of solutions to improve this issue. I have found a solution that will include switching photo album application. The one I have been trying out is working differently and will hopefully improve the speeds. It will for sure bring a much smoother photo viewing experience. Have a look on my testing page and let me know pros/cons and I’ll update the entire gallery if you are all happy. Thanks!
The new Flash Photo Gallery beta!
Fusion at the Dizzy Jazz Cafe
Together with my friend Harm, I went to the Dizzy Jazz Cafe around the corner from my house to check the tuesday concert out. It happend to be the most over-the-top happening fusion music this year for sure. Featuring the amazing bass player Gary Willis and trumpeter Gerard Presencer, the dutchmen Rob van Bavel on piano and Sebastiaan Cornelissen totally rocked the house. Gary Willis, known from numerous records and bands, played fantastic as on the records I have with Tribal Tech. Gerard on trumpet showed to be the most incredible improviser. Mind-boggling! The camera was in my hands, and I used the evening to try some difficult indoor shooting. Lots of noise (both concerning the sound and the photos) asks for a different approach, especially since I didn't bring my flash unit. Difficulties to focus forced me to use the manual focus on the camera, hence the blurryness…
Gig at the Sailing Club in Rotterdam
Today we played a small relaxed concert at the lake in Rotterdam, Kralingse Plas. Weather was cloudy, overcast but dry, so some great circumstances for good photos. I brought the cam , enjoyed some beers and playing with the boys. Good times!
