Recording of the Young Sinatras’ new CD
After some good days in PowerSound Studios Amsterdam the tracks are finally laid down for our new CD. 12 tracks have been recorded and solos are being recorded as we speak. Hopefully it will release before summer. I will keep you up to date. Check the Photo Gallery for some cool shots from the guys and the studio.
My photos on Flickr.com

I just created a profile on flickr.com - a huge community for photographers on the net. Great stuff is to be found here! Loads of different groups where you can talk to each other about all sorts of things. The site itself just makes sense, everything is very easy and intuitive and I would love to see some of you join me there and add me as contact! Then we can share some photos and have some fun.
Buy my photos! (or start selling your own)
I have joined an online stock photo store recently and started to upload some of my work for sales purposes. Some of you contacts me asking to get a print or so from a photo they like. Now without worries it’s easy to go to my online store to simply buy them! Easy enough, by clicking on the banner below you’ll be taken to my online gallery where you can purchase any number of my photos for cheap dollars.
For those of you who have had thoughts of starting to sell photos online as well, just do it! Does not cost you a penny to join up, nor does it hurt getting some dollars for the hard work you have put in. Click the buttons below and join up! You can choose multiple companies to multiply your revenues, just make sure you don’t give any company full/exclusive rights to your photos.
Reorganization
I have divided my normal photo albums and the Photoshop Before/After albums. The new gallery for those Photoshop interested ones can be found on top of the page under Before/After Gallery. The other images from before are still to be found in the old Photo Gallery.
And… I have added one more album in the Before/After section. Please enjoy!
Long time no see!
First of all, sorry for the delays. There has been no news in a long time.Being busy with other things makes your priorities change. I will try to improve.
I'll start off mentioning that the software that runs my photo gallery has been updated. For me that means easier maintenance and uploading of new photos. Great. Good start you think right…
Next thing is that I visited Foto Klein Professional in Rotterdam last week which I found to be a great store. Great service minded staff and good products in stock. Not too often found in this country. They happened to stock some second hand gear like analog bodies, lenses, strobes and accessories as well as their new stuff. Since I already have a great digital camera body, the Canon 20D, I thought it would be nice to check out the old classic 35mm film cameras. I bought a Canon 500N analog body and some Ilford black & white film. I can use the lenses I already have on this camera, so why not?!
What they had as well was an older Nikon flash unit, the SB-25 , which I have been reading a lot about on Strobist. It is very powerful and has full manual controls and can be synched via my camera's sync terminal. The nice thing with this is that I now can use my other flash unit, the canon 420EX together with this new one and shoot them simultaneously! That means you open up loads of new possibilities for flash photography instead of buying really expensive gear like studio strobes and lights. Costing only 50 euros I thought this was a steal. Basically I ended up with some really good gear and I hope I can show you all some nice results soon.
For now, please bare with me. Some new photos will come soon!
New term, back from summer holidays
Just attended the first day of my last year in school. Rotterdam still is the place to be to play trombone. Ilja Reijngoud and Bart van Lier are my teachers still and I am sure I'll learn a lot this year. Hopefully I will make a lot of photos as well and make sure to keep the web page updated. Summer has been relaxed and it is time to get back to it. Keep coming in to check out new stuff!
Summer vacations arrive
So, after attendning multiple end exams from various people at school, things are finally calming down for sure. It was a quite busy end of the school year I must say and I totally enjoy the free time! I am playing the last show of Jesus Christ Superstar tomorrow and have time to get ready for the preparations for the North Sea Jazz Festival. We start rehearsing the 10th.
Tip for the summer musicians: I'd like to recommend surfing in on Jeff Helgesen's marvellous home page for solo transcriptions. He has numerous pdfs on his site with transcribed jazz solos from famous trumpet players like Chet Baker, Conte Candoli, Clifford Brown a.o. Great if you are getting tired of your practising material and want to try new stuff. I'm glad he is sharing this great resource with us!
For those of you who wonder what/where I'll be doing this summer I give you my summer schedule:
- 10-14 July - Rehearsals for the North Sea Jazz Festival
- 14-16 July - Enjoying the Festival with mom!
- 16-19 July - Showing mom Holland and Belgium (beers)
- 21 July - Gig in Holland with the Young Sinatras
- 22 July - Gigs in France with the Young Sinatras
- 24 July - GOING TO SWEDEN
- 26-28 July - CD recording with the Malmö Fire Brigade Band
- 29 July - 1 September - vacations and Liseberg Marching Brass
- Early september - back to Holland for my last year at Codarts in Rotterdam!
Some enhancements to the site
Finally I feel more or less finished with the transition to the new photo gallery. The entire site should now be MUCH faster then it has been before. That is an improvement for sure. The photo gallery link is to be found as usual on the top of the page - above the title image - but clicking on the pictures in the posts will not work anymore. So remember that link on top to reach the photos. I added some captions and descriptions to most of the photos and made the slideshow experience somewhat better, I even added some sound effects!
I hope you enjoy my improvements - please feel free to report in and tell me how it works!
Downtime issue resolved
So, Some of you might have noticed a couple of hours downtime today. I managed to delete the contents of the database that runs this website. Great work Henrik
. My lovely ISP managed to retrieve a backup made this early morning which contained everything. So after restoring that backup we are up and running again. Wonderful! Thanks Peter at Scorpiondata - a web hotel that give you loads of webspace, loads of nice support and a great hosting experience. I totally recommend them (btw, if you create an account there, which is very cheap, make sure to mention my customer number 790 to give me a free 6 months hosting. Thanks!
Web site recommendation for camera flash stuff
I am sitting in my room for a parcel to arrive with my recently purchased camera gear. Great! Mainly what is coming is some camera maintenance, extra battery, lens hood for my 24mm lens, boy it needs that - and a Manfrotto tripod-head combination! Finally some legs for the camera that are truly profesional. My tip is to not waste some 50 euros on some halfly working tripod. They only make you and your photos dissapointed.
In conjunction with this new stuff, I’d like to direct those of you interested to a beautiful blog on the net that treats the usage of flash, lighting and do-it-yourself lighting. It is called Strobist and does a great job of showing you how to get more in control of your photos using lighting and strobes/flashes. Lots of cool, cheap ideas how to improve your existing gear too.
